Well I was just holding Alice, he's soo lovely and friendly! Think he might be due for a shed soon because his eyes are looking a bit milky! Anyway, about 5 minutes in he went really still and pooped on me!!! His 1st poop and it was on me!!! I didn't realise how smelly it is :( I'm not a happy bunny!! He's still awesome though :) While I was holding him I did see a little bug on my hand that looked like a little flea :S not sure what it was though, does anyone have any ideas?? I checked him and he looks clean, and so is his faun! Do you think it's just a one off or is there anything I should do now?? Sorry for the long message!!

I could see the legs on the insect, it was very small but I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to see the legs of a mite? Sorry to panic. Thanks for the help so far :) |

There are pictures about, it could have been a harmless bug. If your snake isn't showing signs of mites as described in that link then just keep a close eye on the snake, the water bowl and your hands, if you have a white towel next time you handle do it on the towel, let the snake pass through the towel and check for any critters. |

Eek ok thank you very much, I haven't spotted anything else to make me think of mites but I will keep an eye out like you said :) I really hope it was a harmless bug as the mite treatment methods look kinda long!!!
Now I wonder if there is a treatment to stop their poop smelling so much! It was a few hours ago, I've had a shower and I still think I'm getting whiffs of it :S sooo nasty!!

I had to scrub my hand in sugar soap (or fairy liquid mixed with sugar if you don't have any) to get the smell off my hand, its very strong smelling and lingers something shocking. |

Lol i hope i dont get pooped on ever again!!! But if it does happen again i hope its on my boyfriend!!! That'll get him for laughing at me last night. I suppose it is a good thing that he didnt do it in his faun because i can image it smelling in there for a while! When i do take it out of the faun will it still smell and if so what do you suggest to take the smell away??
Lol what a gross subject! Sorry! |

Getting crapped on is a snake right of passage, it happens to everyone. Could be worse. |

Lol,you probably won't smell it when Alice does one in his faun. I always thought snake poo didn't smell as there was never any aroma coming from the faun. However when Loki did 2 feeds worth of poo on me the other week I found out differently....yuk!! |

I wanted to prepare myself for the whole snake poop thing so decided to look at a vid on youtube of a corn snake pooping (I know, I know, pretty gross but it's all part of the research imo lol). I was shocked by how much poop these little corns can produce but at least I am prepared now and it shouldn't be such a huge shock when (not if) it happens!!! |

Well yeah, the poo is a whole mouse pretty much. Its not like when a person goes to the toilet, its just like if you imagine a person eating something as big as snakes do, like a whole baby pig or something. LMFAO. Well it makes sense to me what Im saying but probably not to anyone else! xD Tiffany-x |

Not really. Mites can vary in size, females are quite large and you would deffinately know you had seen it. they are about the size of a pin head and jet black, you can see their legs. males tend to be smaller than the females, lighter in colour and not as round.
Is this the only snake that you have? mites are little sods for infesting collections, they travel a vast distance in 24 hours and they MUST feed to breed properly. they can live in crapets and behind things like skirting boards for a short period, so even when you think the viv and snake are clear, they can come back.
How long have you had the snake?? Mites dont just happen, they always have a source, most likely the pet shop, so if you have had him a while, then you will have more. I would suggest you start treating as soon as you can, and i would suggest you use the water and fairy method, its cleaner than the oil and water and less risky than using frontline on the snake. |

I do agree with mike,i wouldnt take the risk of not doing nothing,at least empty the viv and clean thoroughly and use kitchen paper instead of substrate so any mites will show up,remove any decore and clean or bake well, just just disposable stuff for hides until your sure your crear. |
